营养水平对于外科手术术后快速康复至关重要，对营养水平的评估与干预，能够有利于患者的术后恢复。目前相关研究表明低白蛋白血症与营养不良的发生密切相关，前白蛋白与白蛋白类似，都可以反应机体的营养情况及肝功能变化，但是，前白蛋白的半衰期更短，合成代谢更加迅速，所以其敏感度要明显优于白蛋白。
