Mechanical fundamentals experiments are compulsory courses for mechanical-related majors in engineering colleges. They play an important role in cultivating students’ practical and innovative abilities, as well as their capability to solve practical engineering problems. In the context of the new engineering disciplines, the traditional teaching mode of mechanical fundamentals experiments is no longer adequate. Starting from the characteristics and current situation of mechanical fundamentals experimental teaching, this paper analyzes the existing problems in the current experimental teaching system. It proposes corresponding improvement measures from the aspects of experimental teaching modes, content, and methods, aiming to enhance the quality of mechanical fundamentals experimental teaching and strengthen students’ ability for independent innovation.
