Abstract: This study aims to explore the application and challenges of intercultural communication ability in primary school English teaching. In the context of globalization, cross-cultural communication ability has become an important part of students language learning. This paper first analyzes the concept of intercultural communication ability and its significance in language teaching, and points out its necessity in primary school English education. Through the investigation and analysis of the current situation of English teaching in primary schools, it is found that although some schools and teachers have begun to try to integrate into cross-cultural teaching, they still face some challenges in teaching content, methods and teacher quality. To this end, this paper proposes targeted teaching strategies, including integrating cross-cultural elements into the curriculum design, innovating teaching methods, and strengthening the cross-cultural training of teachers. Finally, the paper summarizes the role of intercultural communication ability in primary school English teaching and discusses the future research direction.
