Attitudes Towards Bilingual Education: A Study of Parents in Two Selected Bilingual kindergartens in China

The introduction of English language programs in kindergartens has become an unstoppable trend for young Chinese students. There have been many reported reasons and benefits of bilingual education based on previous studies by researchers who were interested in this research topic. However, very little research has been conducted to study reasons and benefits of Chinese-English bilingual education. What is the current attitude of Chinese parents towards bilingual education in kindergartens? What are the main reasons parents send their children to Chinese-English bilingual kindergartens? What are the advantages and disadvantages of a Chinese-English bilingual education for children? The aim of this study was to conduct a study of Chinese parents’ perceptions and attitudes toward bilingual education, to analyze their views on the reasons, and to study the advantages and disadvantages of the two kinds of programs.
