Research and Implementation of Cultural Awareness Cultivation in Junior High School English Reading Instruction

The Outline for the Construction of an Education Power 2024-2035 calls for the comprehensive advancement of educational modernization, emphasizing cultural infiltration in education. In alignment with the New English Curriculum Standards’ explicit requirements for cultivating students’ core competencies, particularly cultural awareness. Junior high school students are in the “critical period” of cultural identity in the development of cultural awareness, therefore, junior high school English reading teaching is endowed with a new mission. This paper focuses on the research and practice of cultivating cultural awareness in junior high school English reading teaching, and analyzes the practical dilemmas faced in current junior high school English reading teaching. Then it deeply explores feasible implementation strategies: constructing a multi-dimensional cultural knowledge system, digging deep into cultural connotations, and promoting cultural practice, so as to provide useful reference for the organic integration of knowledge teaching and cultural education in junior high school English reading teaching, and help cultivate high-core quality talents.
