The promulgation of the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education (2022 edition) has changed the goal of English curriculum from “comprehensive language application ability” to core competency-oriented goal. In this context, the vocabulary requirement of the new curriculum has increased by 25%. At present, English vocabulary teaching in some senior high schools is still boring and monotonous, resulting in vocabulary learning difficulties, quality fragmentation and other problems. Based on this, the study mainly adopts exploration-interpretation paradigm to deeply study the compatibility, integration degree and integration approach of Senior English vocabulary teaching and narrow reading in vocabulary teaching through theoretical analysis and teaching cases, aiming to explore a more effective way to promote learners’ core competencies. It is found that the combination of narrow reading with vocabulary learning can help improve the effectiveness of vocabulary learning, facilitate students to understand the scenes and meanings of words, guide students to think step by step in the text, and grasp the meaning of words in a more comprehensive way, so as to improve their vocabulary learning efficiency.
