College enrollment is the core hub for selecting talents and maintaining the quality of higher education. In the context of the new round of examination and enrollment system reform, it is important to learn from the past and gain useful enrollment experience. As the first national comprehensive university in China, National Peking University (NPU) has an important value in the development of the enrollment system of colleges and universities in China. During the Republic of China period, NPU has experienced independent enrollment (1912-1932), planned and unified enrollment (1933-1940) and diversified enrollment (1941-1949), which is very important for the development of higher education (1941-1949), which has the following inspiration for today's college enrollment system: the combination of government macro-control and independent enrollment of colleges and universities; the integration of arts and sciences in the examination subjects; and the promotion of the reform of exam propositions to examine the comprehensive ability to guarantee the fairness of diversified selection.
