Innovation in College Music Education Models Under Multicultural Contexts

As globalization continues to develop, cross cultural communication has developed into unprecedented breadth and depth, which has brought music education in higher education institutions with development opportunities as well as many challenges. At present, in college music education in China, there are often problems, such as a narrow cultural perspective and unchanging pedagogical approaches. These factors have restricted its long-term development capacity. Based on the research results of cross-cultural music education theory and constructivist learning theory, it is possible to surpass the traditional one-way cultural encapsulation model by developing a rich music curriculum framework, improving pedagogical approaches and building operation platforms, etc. Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Central Conservatory of Music and other schools have had some pilot experiments and have achieved certain achievements. Their practices not only demonstrate that the above measures can expand students’ cognitive horizons of different cultures and improve their comprehensive quality, but also provide practical reference and theoretical support for building a college music education system that meets the needs of the new situation.
