文章摘要
Abstract: In the past, research on Harry Potter has focused on the translation theories used in the translation of the novel and the subtitled translation of the film, with less research on the animal metaphors in the novel. This article takes the animals in the Harry Potter as a starting point, taking the Phoenix, Dog, Boggart and the four Houses’ representative animals for example to analyze the conceptual metaphors of animals in the series of Harry Potter from the perspective of Cognitive Linguistics. And then, it analyzes how the author uses animal metaphors to build characters and promote plot development. By analyzing the scenes in which these animals appear in the novel, the metaphorical meaning of the animals mentioned in this paper is derived by combining the content of the novel. The metaphor of the Phoenix is rebirth, hope and sacrifice, the metaphor of the Black Dog is doom, death and loyalty, and the metaphor of the Bogart is the fear in people’s heart.
