文章摘要
The paper assesses the play King Lear¸ through the social and historical lens. Shakespeare adopted some classical sources and added what was happening in society during his time. Though the play occurred in the 8th Century, Shakespeare applied it in 17th Century England to put it more into perspective. The patriarchal society and the divine theory, among other factors, comprise the social and historical context.
