Based on the true story of Tony the Bodyguard, Peter Farrelly's film Green Book follows him as he is hired to drive Don, one of the world's finest classical pianists, and embarks on a tour in New York City, showing the friendship between the two across race and class. The movie not only won the Oscar for best Picture but also prompted audiences to think deeply about human relationships and cultural differences. This paper aims to reveal the communication mode between characters in the movie by analyzing the correlation between Green Book and Penelope Brown&Stephen Levinson’s Politeness Principle and Leech’s Politeness Principle Theory. The dialogue texts from the Green Book are compiled in this paper as research data through two different online platforms to understand the development process of verbal communication between Don Shirley and Tony Vallelonga. The results show that: (1) The dialogues between Don Shirley and Tony Vallelonga reflect changes in social distance and relative power; (2) Good dialogue in the movie shows the power of friendship and humanity, and how to build deep connections that transcend social divisions.
