The concept of core quality in education represents a further deepening of educational philosophy and an accurate expression of the goals of quality education, pointing to a new direction for the deepening reform of physical education curricula. Under this concept, the original teaching mode is no longer sufficient to meet the requirements for cultivating core competencies. It is imperative to explore the impact of the core competency concept on the teaching mode of physical education, understand the implications of this new educational philosophy, and innovate the teaching approach. The research indicates that the core competency concept makes educational goals more specific and detailed, which is conducive to the unique educational functions of physical education curricula. An examination of the current state of physical education teaching from the perspective of core competencies reveals issues such as broad objectives, a single teaching mode, a lack of process evaluation, and imperfect curriculum construction and resource development that do not align with the new educational philosophy. Corresponding strategies and suggestions are proposed, including goal-oriented approaches, innovative modes, enhanced practical training, diversified evaluations, and curriculum development.
