Through the in-depth analysis of Brahms’ inheritance and development of Schumann’s musical heritage, this paper discusses how Brahms inherited Schumann’s traditions in music style, music skills and music content, innovated and developed them on this basis. Firstly, this paper summarizes Brahms’ inheritance of Schumann’s musical heritage, including the inheritance of music style, music skills and music content. Then it analyzes Brahms’ development of Schumann’s musical heritage, including the development of musical form, music language and musical emotion. Finally, this paper points out Brahms’ innovations on the basis of Schumann’s musical heritage and his contribution and influence on the romantic music in the 19th century.
