文章摘要
This paper conducts a narratological analysis of Sherwood Anderson’s Death in the Woods. It first introduces narratology and its significance in analyzing literary texts. Then, it examines the narrator and time in the story. The first - person narrator “I” establishes credibility through detailed accounts and inferences. Various narrative patterns, such as ellipsis and pause, are used to depict the old woman's tragic life. Flashbacks intertwine past and present, making the story more engaging. Anderson skillfully employs these techniques to explore themes of death and the value of life.
